re: South Carolina Archives search - Stitt / Still and Adair.
Would they be related to the undermentioned ?
County of Down, N. Ireland, Barony of Mourne (There was a was earlier Wm Adair "of Morne" & Richard Adair "of Morne") Copy of Registries. 1 Jan 1813 - 1 Jan 1821 The 40 shilling freeholders list. Registries in Kilkeel, 22 Oct 1820. Kilkeel Parish, it gives the name of the 40 shilling freeholder, his abode, landlord and the names of Tenures or other Lives, The freehold was usually for as long as the person lived or someone they named, hence “(King) George III” or any other Royalty, as the people thought they would live a long life, They could name three people, quite a lot of names the freeholder names as tenures or other lives were relations or family, this helps with anyone researching ancestors from the area, the names are written down as they appeared in the register, however the names were often spelt as they sounded .
