Hello Scotire,
Was reading the Adairs of Callaway Co Mo. postings here and came upon your postings that seem to relate to various estates in New Castle Co., Del. The listing for John Terrance interests me greatly.
I think that from the 1782 date it is the same person listed as John Tarrence, Estate, Assessment, 5, on the 1782 tax list for Pencader Hundred, NCCo., Del.
He is called "my beloved nephew John Torrence" in the 1777 will of his aunt Dinah James who named him as her executor. (Will Book K, Page 301, NCCo). Dinah also mentions "Sarah Torrence my ni[e]ce" who may have been John's sister.
Do you know anything further about the Sarah Adair and Alexander Adair who are mentioned in regard to this estate?
Am wondering if Sarah Torrence in 1777 and Sarah Adair in 1782 were the same person? Cannot imagine who else Sarah Adair could be, but I have no idea who Sarah's Adair husband could be.
I have the estate records of William Adair 1779, William 1789, Alexander 1788, John 1785, Samuel, and James 1786.
There was an Alexander Adair, son of William Adair (died 1779). Alexander died before 14 Nov 1788 in Pencader Hundred, NCCo., Del., leaving a widow Mary Adair who renounced administration in favor of Alex's brother Richard Adair, on 14 Nov 1788.
Thanks if you can provide any further info on Sarah Adair or John Terrance/Tarrence/Torrence.
Daniel
