Northampton [MA] - Robert M. Adams, 90, of 80 South Main St., died April 12 in the Mediplex Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of Northampton.
Born in Evanston, Ill., March 31, 1907, he was the son of the late James W. and Grace (Clark) Adams.
He graduated from Worcester Academy and received a master's degree in anthropology from the University of Chicago.
He had done archaeological work in this country and abroad, and had supervised a dig at what is now known as Mastodon Park in Missouri. He later became a vocational rehabilitation councelor for the state of Missouri, retiring in 1969.
Mr. Adams moved to Florence in 1977. He was a member of the First Churches of Northampton, where he was a chorister and deacon. He was a member of the American Association of Variable Star Observers. He leaves his wife of 59 years, Betty (Bachrac) Adams; two sons, David B. Adams of Paris, France, and James W. Adams of St. Paul, Minn.; a daughter, Constance Adams Platt of Florence; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
At his request, his body was donated to the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester. A memorial service will be held the morning of April 26 at the First Churches. Czelusniak Funeral Home of Northampton is handling arrangements. Mr. and Mrs. Adams each attended Antioch College in Yellow Springs. Their son was born 6 July 1931 at "Smith Sanitarium" which was the collge medical clinic, later known as the Armstrong House when it was in use as a music building for the college. The building was directly behind the Fels Building and many children were born there.

After Robert Sr and Marion (Piper) Adams divorced, Marion and young son Robert Jr relocated to California where each later died. Robert Jr had two daughters and one son by wife Janet Ann Erven, as well as one legally adopted son, Gary.
The children of Robert Jr & Janet:
1-Pamela Anne Adams, b 1954. Pam had two sons, Michael and Wesley. Michael died February 2001, age 24. Wesley is a senior at a North Carolina university.
2-Deborah Kathryn Adams, b 1955, had three daughters. Tara Lyn b 1974, Samantha Ashton b 1987, and Abigail Stephanie b 1999.
