His military service record is available from the National Archives, Washington, DC.I have only a copy transcribed from the photocopy so the info may be inaccurate. He was in Capt. Bonnel's Company NJ, recordW4873.The copy states he was born in Sussex County NJ where he resided during the whole of the Revolution. He was enrolled in the militia in 1778 and served various tours.Soon after the Revolution he removed to the Susquehanah (sp) in PA.In 1814 he moved to Harlem County OH where he died.Somewhere I have read that he came from Luzerne County, PA to OH.When I made a flying trip to the courthouse in Luzerne County I didn't have time to learn what he sold (if indeed he sold anything) when he went to Ohio.
An affidavit in the military file by his son Evy gives his Wife's name as Elizabeth and lists his children and their dates of birth.
History of Delaware County, Ohio by O. L. Baskin & Co., Historical Publishers 1880tells of the Adams on pages 837 & 838 and the Manns on pages 842, 843 & 844.(I'm a descendant of Lucy Ann Mann who married Davis Swickard.)
I read the Jeremy Adams book and the author's research materials in Boston and could find no tie to the above David Adams, my ancestor. There was one note from a correspondent asking if the author knew of an Adams family in Sussex County, NJ that could have been David's (I forget the wording of the note) but the author answered "No."
Also looked at the NJ archives where the wills from the first Wills book were missing and the Adams wills I found didn't work.
In NJ, In PA, and in OH it seemed to me that there were other Adams families using the name David at the same times and in the same places I looked for information on my David Adams.Of course it is a common name and I was always rushed but it was frustrating.I'd be interested in hearing from other David Adams descendants.
