Have more detail to add. This us a cut-n-paste of my message in Vaughn forum:
Looking for connections to Samantha Elizabeth Vaughn m. Alexander "Alec" Brown. They had 6 children: Sam, Tom, Lu, Maud, Margaret, & Rose.
This is what I know based on family tradition.... Samantha is rumored to be a descendant of John Quincy Adams. She met & married Alec in GA.His family owned a cotton plantation and slaves during the Civil War.Alec had a brother named William.
Samantha and Alec moved to Everman TX after the war.Alec owned / operated a saw mill. They moved back to GA when the children were small, stayed a short time, and then moved to Sharon Valley, KS.Alec hauled freight between TX & OK.He was killed when his horse reared up and the horn of the saddle burst his bladder.
After his death, Samantha moved to Byron OK where her son Sam farmed the claim. Her daughter Rose died during childbirth. They were buried together in Amorita. When Samantha died, she was buried in the same plot with her daughter and grandchild.
I found one Alex Brown family on the 1880 census for Tarrant Co. / Everman. The children's names don't match with the above info, but it does say that he and his wife are from GA.Perhaps these children are older.I am a descendant of Maud, and she wasn't born until 1882 and therefore not on the census.
To further confuse matters, she lists her parents on her marriage certificate as Alex Brown and Rosa Adams... and another researcher shows her mother as Rosanna Samantha Elizabeth Vaughn (which match the initials of R.S., wife of Alex. on the 1880 census).
I've been trying to piece this together for years!Any clues would be greatly appreciated.
