Am seeking information on my ancestral cousin, WILLIAM E. ADAMS.He was born, say, 1813, probably in Sumter County, South Carolina. His parents were WILLIAM ADAMS and LEAH CATER.His siblings were:
1.Edwin Bryant Adams (1817-1890) married Catherine Oliver.Lived in Monroe County, Alabama, Macon County, Alabama, and Polk County, Texas.
2.Leah Adams (b. c1825) married Joseph Oliver.Lived in Macon County, Alabama.
3.Sophronia Adams (c1814-1854) married Wade H. Greening.Lived in Conecuh County, Alabama and Santa Rosa County, Florida.
4.Catherine Adams (b. c1826) married first, a Womack, second John Marr, and, third, John Foster Poe.Lived in Macon County, Alabama and Polk County, Texas.
The family emigrated from Sumter County, South Carolina, to the Monroe/Conecuh County, Alabama area, in the late 1810s or early 1820s.
WILLIAM E. ADAMS purchased land near Brooklyn in Conecuh County, Alabama in 1836.In 1840, he was living in Macon County, Alabama. He married about this time a MARY JANE DEAN, daughter of REUBEN DEAN and HESTER ROYSTON.She was born about 1824 in Virginia.WILLIAM E. ADAMS deeded property to his wife, MARY JANE, in 1843.The deed was executed in Union County, Arkansas, but recorded in Harrison County, Texas. It is believed that WILLIAM E. ADAMS and his first wife divorced about this time and this deed may represent the property settlement. In 1846, WILLIAM E. ADAMS married an ANN ELIZA DEAN in Harrison County, Texas.MARY JANE DEAN ADAMS married Dr. WILLIAM W. BLACKWELL in 1848 in Harrison County, Texas.MARY JANE and her new husband relocated to Shreveport, Caddo Parish, Louisiana.WILLIAM E. ADAMS is listed in Harrison County, Texas, records until 1858.He disappears after this date.He is said to have substituted for his brother, EDWIN B. ADAMS of Moscow, Polk County, Texas, in1863 in Company C, 2nd Brigade Infantry, Texas State Troops. He was stationed at Beaumont, Texas, for a three-month enlistment.I have no other record of him after this mention. He is believed to have the following children:
1.William E. Adams born c1842 in Texas or possibly Arkansas. He was living with MARY JANE DEAN ADAMS BLACKWELL in Caddo Parish, Louisiana, in the 1860 census. He served as a private in Co. F., 17th La. Infantry during the Civil War.
2.Thomas B. Adams born c1845 in Texas. He was living with MARY JANE DEAN ADAMS BLACKWELL in Caddo Parish, Louisiana, in the 1850 census and 1860 census.
3.Samuel Adams. He is possibly identical to a Samuel O. Adams who was living in 1870 in Shreveport, Caddo Parish, Louisiana. This Samuel O. Adams was born May 15, 1847 in Texas (Jefferson, Texas per his daughter’s death record). He married LAURA URBACH in 1874 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He had two children, WILLIAM EDWARDS ADAMS (1875-1939) and JOSEPHINE ADAMS (1887-1957).WILLIAM died unmarried and JOSEPHINE died without children, therefore, there are no descendants of this family.Samuel served in Co. I, 17th Louisiana Infantry, in the Civil War the same regiment as William E. Adams above.Samuel was a tinsmith and his family were members of the Presbyterian church.
