Carole Yes, we are some sort of very distant cousin. As I have found them, the children of Noah and Nancy Adams are: unknown female b ca 1819 unknown male b ca 1820 Millie Adams b 1824 Indiana m 1) James Warren Mobley, m 2)Preston Sparks, father of Hannah Sparks by first wife Rebecca McCray Isaiah Adams b 1827 m Lavina Hammock William B Adams b 1828 m Louisa Pierce Josiah Adams b 1830 m Elizabeth Emily Rogers David Adams b 1834 m Hannah Sparks Jeremiah Adams b 1836 m Indiana Hammock Nancy Adams b 1837 m John Shoemaker Noah Adams b 1838 died before 1860.
I am descended from William and Louisa. I suspect that the William came from Noah's brother of the same name and imagine that the B stands for Boon or Bryan. I have still not secured a death certificate from Vigo Co, since I know only that he died between 1890 and 1900.
I have been unable to find Noah Adams, his father in law Jeremiah Crews, and his stepfather Josiah Boone IV anywhere on the 1820 census. If I could figure out who the two eldest children were (and if they lived until 1850), I might find out where these families were between 1818 (when they were all in Shelby Co KY) and 1830 when Jeremiah Crews and Noah Adams showed up in Vigo Co and Josiah Boone IV showed up in Sullivan Co. Based on Mille's place of birth, they were in Indiana by 1824, so there is a six year gap that needs filling. The problem is that there were two other separate Adams families in Vigo Co, so it is slow going plowing through marriage and census records. Noah Adams was one of five children of Ellender Bryan (sister of Rebecca Bryan who married Daniel Boone (per the will of her father Joseph Bryan) and Ephraim Adams. The other three children were Alice Francis who married Robert Barnhill and settled in Oldham Co KY, Joel who married Susannah Taylor and settled in Oldham Co KY, Jacob and William.
By the way, I saw from your post at the Vigo Co site that your Charles Wesley Adams lived in Los Angeles just around the corner from the home where my parents were living when I was born (in the 40's). My mother was the daughter of Jeremiah Adams, William's son, your Charles Wesley Adams' first cousin. Small world. Margaret Wells
