Don't know if this applies to your James but I found this
in ref to Adams Camp Ground 1816-1950 AMite Circuit, Amite County, William Adams settled the NE4, SEct 28, T5n, R6E, on the E fork of Amite Riv in Amite Co on Jan 12, 1816 and JAmes Aams the SE 4 on Sect 10, 1824, (C&O,I 530) This Area became a part of Lincoln Co in 1870 and is now situated in Auburn VIllage. The first and second district Conferences in MS were held at Adams CAmp Ground 27th Oct, 1822, and 6th Nov, 1823 (C&O,II,556,561)
Info fromChurches in the Conference compilation
This doesn't appear to be my Adams families but looking at the Isaac Adams found inJeffCounty 1816, Joannah found in AMite 1816 along with Joseph, Robert SR, and Jr in the
inhabitants of the Natchez District.
They are all in MS about the same time and Isaac was also born in Barnwell.
