In April 1820 Benjamin Ward of Ashe Co.,NC left a will that named one of his heirs as a daughter, named Selah Ward. On 4 August 1824 a Celia Ward married Tarlton Adams, son of John Adams & Esther Hawkins, at Ashe Co., NC; Squire Adams stood as bondsman.
In the probate records for Benjamin Ward's brother, Dr. William Ward of Rutherford County, TN, a record appears for distribution of the estate to Benjamin's heirs in 1851 and 1851, persuant to a law suit filed by Benjamin's son, Kelly Ward, on behalf of himself and his siblings, to include a sister named Celia. In the court decision Celia Ward is named as a deceased heir & daughter of Benjamin Ward -- she is not named as Celia Adams -- she is named as Celia Marlow.
Can anyone shed any light on this distinct difference in the records? Surely Kelly Ward would know the married name of his sister, Celia Ward, and would have given it correctly to the court.
Is it possible that Celia, wife of Tarlton Adams, is the daughter of Joshua Ward, brother of Benjamin Ward? Or someone else in the Ward family?
