I think I told you several years ago that when I started my Adams research that your information was some of the very first that I came across.I am ever greatful for that.
I have been involved with the Adams DNA project for several years. There are two or three other Adams matches and we can all get our paper trails back to Robert of Goochland.
Yesterday I got another match.THis one is a litte more difficult. His parents divorced when he was a baby and he never knew his father. But he did know the father and grandfather's names and places of birth.
I have him solid back to Edward Leonard Adams, b. 5 Sept 1872 in AL.I am 99% sure that Edward's father is Joseph M. Adams born in GA c 1827.I find Joseph as J M in the 1860 Russell Co. AL census and the 1870 Midway, Bullock Co AL census. In 1860 his wife is M Adams age 33.In the 1880 Floyd Co, GA census Joseph M. has a new wife and Edward age 7 with some other kids and step kids.In this census Joseph M was age 50.His father was shown as from VA and his mother from KY.
I thought that almost all of the Midway Adams were your line thru Samuel, but I can't figure out how this guy fits in.Samuel's son Joseph was born in 1806,I believe.Joseph's son Joseph was not born until 1846.
One person who I contacted Emily Adams, a descendant of Joseph M thru another wife (he had at least 3), says that family lore said that Joseph's father was Joel and that Joel had brothers Edward and Dawson. Joseph did name a son Edward and a son Dawson.I just can't find who Joel would be. Emily also said that Joseph's first wife was by lore a Thronton. That could have been confused with Samuel's wife.Joseph also named a daughter Martha (and I belive it was Martha Ann) who could have been named after Martha Ann "Patsy" Thornton.
At first when I saw that the 1880 census showed Joseph M's father being from VA and him mother being from KY that he might be descended from one of the son's of Robert of Goochland's son Robert. Some of those families went to KY.
Since there is an almost exact DNA match and since Joseph M was in Midway, I have to lean toward him being related to Samuel somehow.
Some pieces fit. Some pieces don't.I would appreciate your insight.
