Hi Elise - I had only an incomplete mar. record for Frances C. Butler's marriage to an unk. Adams 10 Jan 1859 in Madison Co. TN, mar. perf. by Rev. R. G. Rainey; the 1860 census of Madison Co. TN seems to identify Frances Butler's husband as Minos/Minus C. Adams b. c1815 TN, who seems to be the same one mentioned in some of your posts and others.Minos C. seems to be the son of Isaac Adams and one of his 2 wives Susan Walser or Cynthia Roberts, but the pertinent birth/death/marriage dates are unclear.I know nothing further of this Adams family and have no Adams relations.
However, the Adams surname shows up several times in notes I have on various Butler families in Madison Co. TN.There are several Pate-Adams marriages in Southampton Co. VA, one being Hartwell Pate to Sally Adams 19 Jan 1814, and I suspect this is the same Hartwell Pate who witnessed the 1832 will of William Butler in Madison Co. TN. I have studied several different Butler families found in Madison Co. TN because a descendant of one of them is an exact DNA match to me.But in doing so, I have not been able to place Minos Adams' 2nd wife Frances C. Butler in any of those families. Here is all I can tell you about her so far - most you probably already know, but perhaps some of this will be helpful.
Until I learned that Frances C. Butler mar. Minos Adams, I did not know her age.Because she was married in 1859 by Rev. R. G. Rainey, whose wife was Terry Butler, dau. of Daniel and Elizabeth Butler, I had thought that Frances C. might also have been from that family, but Daniel and Elizabeth have no such daughter enum. with them in 1850.The only Frances Butler in the 1850 census of Madison Co. is a Fanny M. age 5 months. After finding that Frances C.'s husband was Minos Adams, I saw her age in 1860 was 23, so born ca. 1837.perhaps she was enum. with another name in 1850, or she did not live in Madison Co. in 1850.Or her age in 1860 could have been recorded incorrectly or later misread.
Assuming that Frances was b. ca. 1837, and knowing her middle initial was C., I find two possibilities for her in 1850: - Catherine age 13, enum. with Henry Butler b. 1778 NC - Elizabeth C. age 12, enum. with L. T. Butler b. 1811 VA
Since Frances was about 21 or 22 when she mar. Minos Adams in 1859, she might have also been married earlier (to a Butler), perhaps as early as 1852 or so, but I haven't noticed an earlier marriage. If her age in 1860 was 33 instead of 23 (handwriting of some people back then makes this a possibility), then she was b. c1827 and might already be married in 1850.The 1870 census might clarify her age, and we might learn if she had any ch. by Minos Adams. An 1870 census index for Madison Co. TN lists two F. Adams b. 1825 and 1830, but I have not seen the actual census or any other records which would help clarify things.Perhaps someone else has the key to the puzzle.
