James Lawrence Adam, farmer, section 7, Paw Paw twp.had 60 acres of land. He was born in Boston April, 1814 to Allegence and Cathrine Adams. He lost his parents in early youth. Left Boston in 1824 and removed to Otsego Co.N.Y. From there he removed to Alleganey Co. and from there to Chicago Ill. in 1836. He was a clerk in a drug store in Chicago for several months then in the fall of that year he removed to Aurora where he opened the first general store on the East side of that town. He was here for 2 years then he removed to Sugar Kane Co. where he did farming. In March of 1839 he married Martha J. Barnes daughter of Jabez and Mary Barnes. There they had ten children: Alfred 1840; Lucina 1842; Martha J. 1844; Jabez A. 1846; John Q. 1848; Kate 1849; Robert A.1852; Mary A. 1854; Douglas A. 1856; Sarah F. 1858.Martha died in 1862.If any one has any information on any of these people will be glad to exchange information.
