Hello! I'm a Whelpley family researcher. Here's what I have on Abigail: Abigail F. Reynolds, b. 1720-1723, prob Greenwich CT, died aft 1790 (was in CT census), d. prob in Greenwich CT. She married David Whelpley, b. 1729 in Greenwich CT, on 11/9/1749 in Greenwich CT. Had: Hannah, bpt 1/22/1751/2, Joseph bpt 1/22/1751/2, Abigail b. 4/6/1753, Mary b. bef 3/4/1760, Betsy Lockwood Whelpley b. bef 1/1/1766, and Sarah b. bef 1/1/1766.
About David: On 5/2/1767, "Upon petition of Jonathan Whelpley of Greenwich, Judge David Rowland has authorized the seizure of all the property of David Whelpley of Greenwich, an imprisoned debtor." We don't know the cause of his financial problems. I suppose it's possible that Nathaniel &/or John may have brought suit to recover their inheritance, which probably went to David after Abigail married him. And such an action could conceivably have bankrupted him. It certainly would explain everything. One final note on David, on 1/15/1761, he administered the estate of Ebenezer Reynolds, Jr. If you learnany more about items which might have involved David, I'd sure appreciate hearing about it.
BTW, David's brother, Darling Whelpley, b. 1739, was a Loyalist who was sent to NB. And there was a cousin, Ruth Whelpley of Stockbridge MA who married John Fowler, also of Stockbridge. They also were moved to NB.
I'll happily share any other info. There is also an excellent website created by my cousin Brenda Whelply all about our family. You may want to check it for other info. Just search "whelpley", you'll find it.
