Mark, I have a Stephen Adams b 1840 KY, son of John and Ailsey Adams last found on the 1860 White Co.,IL census, I cannot find him after that census. I have long wondered if some of the ADAMS went to Oklahoma, as a gr-uncle used to go hunting in Oklahoma in the 20s, and my gr-grandfather ADAMS went to Oklahoma in 1890s, but returned to IL because he didn't like the way the Indians were treated, one was shot down in front of him in a barber shop. I have long wondered also if the ADAMS were Indian (part), as they are very dark with black hair, and I cannot go back any farther than John ADAMS b 1802 VA.I have only found him on the 1850 Saline Co.,IL census. Others in the family don't agree with me tho', but why then can I not find anything about this John ? There is a story in the family that John was gone from home trading with the Indians, and when he finally returned the parents, and siblings were gone, and no-one knew where they had gone, they were never found again.I have no idea where this took place, but part of the children were born TN, and the rest KY.I have only been able to track my 2xgr-grandfather, Anderson, and the third child, Thomas, the rest are gone . I have used census indexes etc. cannot find them.Contact me if this sounds like it may be your Stephen.
