Hi. I am Uwe Adamski from Hannover, Germany. My grandparents came from Bromberg (today Bydgosz) in Western Prussia. It is said that the father of my grandpa was born near Stettin (Sceczin) as a millerson and became a sculptor who made stone sculptures for churches in Poland. Later he bought a farm in Topolka (near Warsaw) where my Grandpa was born. Our family is of German origin and protestant, it is said that they immigrated in the late Middle Age from Southern Germany to Prussia where they found better living conditions. Even today you find a lot of "Adam" or "Adams" esp. in South Germany. I think the change of the name to "Adamski" came when parts of Prussia became part of the Kingdom of Poland in the late 15. and 16 century and people have been "integrated". Sometimes the name changed in e.g. church books to "Jedamski", "Damski" or similar, so today it may be tricky to search for family history. My grandpa knew about parts of the family who immigrated in the late 19. century to America, but I don´t know any details. Any contacts or special requests are welcome.
