What is the evidence for a marriage of Edward Adcock to Elizabeth Slaughter 1645?
We know that Edward Adcock who married Elizabeth Smith died some time before 7 Aug 1716, when his estate was inventoried in Essex County (The Virginia Genealogist, April-June 1959, v3 #2, cited by Wayne Adcock, http://www.echoalpha.com/genealogy/A322/timeline.htm)http://www.echoalpha.com/genealogy/A322/timeline.htm). If he was married to Elizabeth Slaughter 1645, he would have had to be born about 1620-25, and thus would have been rather old for a second marriage and children after 1677.
That's not impossible, but I have not seen documentation to support a claim that the same Edward married in 1645 and in 1677 and lived to age 95 or so. I would certainly be interested to see such support. It is clear that an Edward Adcock was of age and active in York Co., VA c. 1642, but it is not clear to me that this is the same Edward Adcock who married Elizabeth Smith. It is possible he is an older relative, perhaps a brother of John who was the father of Edward of Essex Co.
So what documentation can be brought to bear on this claim?
