Andrea:I doubt that there is Native American ancestry.I know in Nancy's ancestry there is none back to the 1600's. We don't know who the first John Adcock who was in York,VA in 1640 was married to, and we don't know for sure if Edward (Edward of Essex Co., VA who died in Essex in the early 1700's and son of John of York)was married prior to marrying Elizabeth Smith to whom he was married in the late 1660's, and was still married to Elizabeth, daughter of Toby and Phoebe Smith, when he died.I have seen a lot of stories "of native American descent," "Cherokee blood," in a lot of histories but the names of the families are clearly English or Scottish, and they can trace their families back to the Eastern Shore to the 1600's and early 1700's.I think suggestions are made and then others pick up the hints and questions, and then it soon becomes fact. The Cherokees were not in this area in the 1700's.In the Southern Virginia and bordering counties of N.C., the Indians were mostly Saponi Indians and some remain in this area to date. As late as 1945 they still had a separate school in Person County, but most have intermarried with non-native Americans. I am not stating that there were no marriages between them earlier.
