Audry: John Adcock of Granville Co., NC who died in 1780 was never in Buckingham Co., VA.He left Essex Co., VA in the early 1730's and went to Brunswick Co., VA about 15 miles just above the N.C. border and was there with his brother, Tobias (Toby Adcock) as well as their wives, and recorded working on roads and bridges, until land was sold in Granville Co., NC when the county was formed. He is there in the 1740's. John's wife was named Eleanor and she was the daughter of Leonard Roy of Essex Co., VA whose mother was named Eleanor. John Adcock died in 1780 and his will is recorded there. His oldest son was named Leonard Adcock. His second son (living at his will that is)was named Bolling (spelled about 5 different ways)and his third son was John. For clarification I have called the son of Old John - John Sr. and the one who died in 1780 I have termed "old John." John Sr. the son was paying taxes after his two older brothers, and has a son named John Jr. by the late 1780's. There are several records of John (Sr.) and John Jr. in the large deed books in Granville Co. after Old John died, as well as with John Sr. and sons Andrew and Barnett. John Jr. and his two brothers (there was also a third brother but I have not been able to determine his name)Andrew and Barnett, moved to TN in the early 1800's.John (Jr.) died in 1822 and he is the father of Wyly or Willie as his will states - he also had a son named William according to the will. Someone in TN sent me the names in John (Jr.s) will of 1822. I descend from Old John's fourth living son Edward Connoway Adcock, and live a short distance from where they were in the 1740's. The records in Granville Co., NC are in large deed books, still in the county, and the wills have been transferred to the NC Archives. We cannot find a will for John Sr., but he did move for a brief time one county south of Granville, and possibly could have died there, but may have left with his three sons to go to TN. Other Granville Co. researchers and I believe that John Sr.'s wife was Mary daughter of Benjamin Partee. John (or his son John Jr.) did move back to Granville Co. in the late 1780's and bought land in Southern Granville Co. near where he had lived previously (according to the creeks and the district as well as where the Partees lived). We can find no record of John Jr.'s marriage and I have personally checked in four counties (some of their records are not as good as Granville Co. records, however.) I live within driving distance of a five county area.
John of York, VA Edward of Essex Co., VA near the Rappahannock River and who was married to Elizabeth Smith daughter of Henry Tobias Smith, and who died in Essex Co., VA Henry of Essex Co., VA (who died in Essex). John (who died in Granville Co. in 1780)who was married toEleanor Roy. John Sr. who was married to Mary. John Jr. who was married to ? and who died in TN in 1822.
There is one record of Mary Adcock, a widow, but that may be referring to Bollin Adcock's wife who was Mary Smallwood, daughter of William Smallwood. Betty Adcock Blalock
