You might want to check message 48 on this forum for the origin of the way our names are spelled- yes, there are many Adcoxs' still in and from Arkansas- (I've seen it spelled Adcox, Addcox, and Adcocks on the 1840 Federal Census for White and Izard Counties). The name initially extended from the areas near Dardanelle in Yell county (with a possible connection to the Indian territory inOklahoma) and from "northeast of central" Ark. in the area of Jackson county or northward.(White and Izard County lines were reshaped in the 1800's, as was a portion of Jackson county). There are still Adcox's in or around the towns of Amagon, Pennington, Algoa and Newport. There are some current residents with Adcox names near Hot Springs but they do not appear to be related to me. My line seems to have been Adcox in Arkansas and, prior to that, Adcock in Kentucky and Virginia.
