Thanks to the release of the 1901 Census I have now more questions about George Fredrick Addy and his father (also George) from Sheffield. George Addy (Snr.) had 4 children that we know of, but according to the 1901 Census only Beatrice (13) and Sydney (1) along with Georges wife Fanny (34). are registered at the Boston home of Ellen Fawcett (70) who was Fanny's mother. For some reason G F Addy (my grandfather), sister Mable (who may not have been born in 1901) and his father, George Snr. were not in Boston. We believe George Snr. originated in Sheffield and suspect George Frederick may have been born there. George Frederick eventually came to Boston and set up "Addy's" Photo studio but we can not find any connection to George Snr. He may have even had a second family from which Mable came, but the census does not help. My Father remembers his father talking of being a youth in Sheffield, and he also remembers seeing his Grand father (George Snr) in the 1930's As Fanny was 34 in 1901 and Beatrice was 13, we suspect George Snr. would be 33-45, of which there are several Georges in the Census but all with OTHER families! That puts his birth date between 1856 & 1868. Any clues to additional relatives would be of interest however grim!
