Thanks for the familysearch reference - it looks like guess #2 is correct! I will check the Norwich records, though. My experience with Ancestral File or Ancestry.com pedigrees is that theyÕre really good for getting leads, but they do need to be checked.
In the case of the pedigree youÕve cited, IÕd be very careful about any of the English ancestry. For example, it says that the mother of Thomas Adgate the immigrant was Elizabeth Chester; this pops up from time to time, but IÕve never found a reliable source for that assertion. It is true, though, that a descendant named Thomas Adgate married (as his second wife), Elizabeth Chester of Montville, CT in 1787.
Now that youÕve got your connection to the Adgates, you may find it useful to check out the Adgate website:
If you search for Joseph Lord using the index, you can then trace Lucy AdgateÕs ancestry back- everything that's colored is a link to more information. The advantage of the site is that references are given for everything, so at least you know that the pedigree isnÕt just a collection of wild guesses.
Also, if you do have information that isnÕt in the website, IÕd really appreciate your sending it along.
