Am still searching for the parents of my g.g.g.grandfather, John A. Adkins, supposedly born in Franklin Co., VA, in 1804.John married Susannah Meador on October 6, 1830 in Franklin County (daughter of James Meador and Mary Divers)...have marriage bond & marriage record. He shows up as head of household in 1840. He could possibly have had brothers...James, Henry, and Joseph, as they were all shown with families in Franklin Co. on the 1850 Federal Census...and within the age range to have been brothers. All four repeated the same names with their children, in addition to girls names of...Mary, Sarah, Susan, Lucy and Nancy.
After 1850, John A. Adkins moved with his family to Callaway County, Missouri, settling in Round Prairie Township (in Boydsville). He shows up in 1857, though might have been there as early as 1853. His oldest sons...John H. Adkins and James Adkins were already married and brought their families a little later.John H. Adkins is my g.g.grandfather and with his wife, Elizabeth M. Leftwich, and their children,...in 1857, settled in Cedar Township in Boone County, just a few miles away, yet close enough to get together frequently.John H. and Elizabeth had four children...the first two...Sarah Frances (b. 1854) and Catherine (b. 1856), being born in Franklin Co.
John A.'s children were:
James Adkins, b. 1832, Franklin Co. VA
John H. Adkins, b. Aug. 21, 1833, Franklin Co
Nancy J. Adkins, b. 1836...same
Lucy C. Adkins, b. 1837...same
Joseph Harrison Adkins, b. 1840...same
Mary E. Adkins, b. 1842...same
Susan E. Adkins, b. bet. 1844-46...same
Martha M. Adkins, b. 1848...same
Sarah A. "Sally" Adkins, b. 1850...same
Charles B. "Charley" Adkins, b. 1853...possibly Franklin Co., but reported to have been born in Callaway Co. Missouri.
John A. Adkins died August 24, 1888 in Boydsville of Callaway County, MO and is buried in the Millerscreek Cemetery, just north of Boydsville. Susannah "Susan" Meador Adkins died July 3, 1897, and is also buried in the Millerscreek Cemetery.
Any knowledge of John A. Adkins and his brothers...and hopefully sisters and parents...would be very much appreciated.I have been searching since 1989, and still have had no luck at zeroing in on his parents and sibblings...at least nothing concrete. There were so many Adkins that left Franklin County in the 1850's...relocating to West VA, Kentucky, Missouri, and beyond.Hoping that someone will recognize John A. and possibly brothers...Henry, James, and Joseph.
