I am looking for any information on a Sherwood Adkins Jr, his wife, Rachel Byrd Adkins, and any of their descendants. Or even their ancestors. This is what I have:
SHERWOOD ADKINS JR born nov 11, 1865 in scott co, tn married Rachel Byrd apr 29,1886 in scott co, tn died at 91 yrs old on sept 18, 1957 in scott co tn at the home of his son H.M. (from the obituary)
RACHEL BYRD born: ? died: july 20, 1947 at 78 yrs old in scott co, tn
both of their funerals were at Fairview Baptist Church
their children: **John Henry Elmer Edward Richard Farrell Horace Maynard Frank Ada Adkins Lesli Adkins a son that was not named
**John Henry born Feb 12, 1887 (about a year after Rachel & Sherwood married) so he must be the oldest. he was a schoolteacher in TN where he married Martha Hamblen Ellis on sept 16, 1911. Martha was a widow, previously married to a man named -Ellis they had a daughter named Stacy Ellis who was 7 when Martha and John were married. ( have no idea when Stacy was born, but we are guessing 1904-05 because she was 16 in the 1920 census.) Martha And John lived in or near Oneida, TN they had their first baby, Grace "Gracie" Adkins. she died at 13 mos and is buried somewhere down there, we aren't sure where, but we have a picture of her gravestone. Grace's dates: june 13, 1912 to july 13, 1913.
John moved the family north to Newcomerstown, OH. They had 2 more children: Albert (1917) Elsie Mae (1919) my grandmother
Stacy got pregnant and had a child named Gladys Ellis in 1923. she was an illegitemate child and the father is unknown. Gladys was crippled because of bone problems and an accident and all her life was really short. she was a really great lady, though. She wrote books of poetry about God and was published a lot. She died when I was 6 in 1985.
Stacy died in 1935 of tuberculosis.
John Henry died May 17, 1959
Martha died sometime between 1963-1968, we aren't sure. I can't find a single record on her at all. I'm not sure when she was born either.
My grandmother was Elsie Mae Adkins, DAughter of John Henry Adkins. I am trying to trace my family history, but everyone I could ask about this stuff has passed away. If anyone has ANYTHING that may help, please let me know.
