You are right that the shovel teeth are also found among Native Americans.
Now as far as 'strange diseases' are concerned, our AMERICAN doctors are MISDIAGNOSING many of these illnesses as things like 'fibromyalgia,' various kidney problems etc because these illnesses are THOUGHT to be rare in the states.
Here is a list of my diagnoses BEFORE I found out what was really my problem. Familial Mediterranean Fever has many symptoms which do not quite fit together into a pattern that physicians can see, because in the United States it is thought to be very rare. I don't think it is quite so rare as it might at first seem.
I was diagnosed previously and erroneously, it turns out, with fibromyalgia, (I had ALL the trigger points of fibro and my muscles ached so much at times that my mouth watered from the pain, like a popcorn hull between your teeth causes you to do).
I was diagnosed by blood tests with rheumatoid arthritis.I had x-rays that showed osteo-arthritis. I suffered with chronic recurrent chemical depression, sleep apnea, sleep disorder with myoclonus, and Restless Leg Syndrome, colitis, spastic colon, gallbladder inflammation, appendicitis, possible kidney stones with their concurrent problems of vomiting and diarrhea, and so many other things that I can’t even remember them.
I had chronic respiratory problems, chest pains, sinus infections, allergies and asthma. I had even looked into Chronic Fatigue Syndrome as a possible cause of my problems. All of these things didn’t happen at once. As a child, I was pretty normal between attacks. Then I received the fibromyalgia diagnoses and lived with that for years, but the diagnoses kept being added and they grew worse as I grew older.Sound like I was a wreck? I was more than a wreck. I was bed-ridden in CONSTANT and SEVERE PAIN. I would NOW be DEAD had I not found what was actually causing my problems. It is like a miracle. Not everyone has this illness as severely as I did but some have it even worse!
Of the above laundry list of problems all but Restless Leg Syndrome, and some minor Osteo-arthritis are GONE. They were ALL symptoms of my Familial Med. Fever. The blood tests that showed Rheumatoid Arthritis is also POSITIVE when you have an FMF flare, so I don't have RhA. So I am left w/ those two plus the diagnosis of Familial Mediterranean Fever! Three diagnoses down from 17 different things. Where both my doctors and my family thought I was a hypochondriac, I was REALLY ill with an illness that nobody ever thought to take a look at because I didn't know that I had the ancestry that might bring it about.
