My information that the "massacre" was in Hawkins County i Tennessee in 1790, created in 1786 from part of Sullivan County. (Why is it Indians are killed but whites are always "massacred"?).
John Goad, Jr. born 1729 left Pittsylvania County in 1782 and went to the Watauga settlement(then N.Carolina)in which his nephew Col. John Sevier was a leading figure. Joh Goad joined a son William who had fought at King's Mountain.
Owen Atkins, his son-in-law, joined them there ca 1787 after living for a timein Montgomery County, Va. (later Grayson and Carroll) near the present town of Hillsville.
I have several letters written by a descendant of Owen and Agnes (Goad) Adkins.
The Goad family built a mountain village complete with church and school on Bsys Mountain before most left for Hopkins County,,Ky in ca 1803 with only old William remaining .Most of John's sons ended up in Indiana where their sons fought for the Union as did old Wlliam's grandsons back in Tennessee.
