Reed, thanks for all your information.I would love to have a copy of everything, including the picture of Samantha Gan. I will contact you with my address. I have a picture of Lucinda Gan and Jim Joe Adkison. I also have a picture of Granville Adkison and family if you would like copies.
Yes, you have it right. After James died, Rebecca married Levi Shaw (they are shown in the 1860 Pulaski census)and then she died before 1870.The 3 boys went to foster homes by the 1870 census.I know that William Adkison went to live in Arkansas with someone and I would like to find out who.The other two boys stayed in Pulaski Cty... one with the White family and one with the Story family. They lived close together and these two families were actually kin as in-laws (Mrs. White was a Story before she married).
William was in Lawrence County, AR.Granville and his family moved down there to be with him and are in the 1880 Lawrence Cty AR census, but Granville was back in Missouri by the 1900 census.
I would love to find out where in Tennessee James and Rebecca were from.I believe they met right there in Pulaski Cty (no proof), so they may be from two different places in TN.There's only one Greenwood family living in Pulaski Cty in 1850 and they are very nearby to James and Rebecca's house. It is Yancy Greenwood and his wife and kids.I have done some research on this family but can't seem to fit Rebecca into the picture. He is a little young to be her father.Yet I do believe she must be kin.Yancy was from Sumner and Overton Cty, TN, I believe.
As for James, there is an Owen Adkins from TN who could be his father shown in the 1840 Pulaski Cty census.I believe he moved on to Newton, MO by 1850.The census shows where he would have had a son James's age.I think this was James's father but have no proof yet.I would really like to go farther back to Tennessee if possible. If you have any information on this, please let me know. Thanks again for posting all your good information.Pat Adkison
