Gary, Edwin Tappan Adney wrote up some information about this family, but it is pretty sketchy. I'll quote (and will write this up in better fashion sometime): Thomas Adney (Thomas) b. 'about 1780 or a little after' in Virginia. He married, in Virginia, Mary Rose b. 1780; d. in Tennessee in 1857 aged 71. He left Virginia about 1820 and settled in Knox Co., Tenn. Children, from the Tennessee record: 1. Charles b. 1803Record 2. Betty b. about 1805; d. 1883; Record 3. William, b. -----partial record 4. Richmond b. about 1818 no further record 5. George Washington b. 1822 record 6. Mary b. 1835; d. 1900, in Tenn. 7. Campbell Wallace b. Aug. 9, 1830Record
ETA says that Charles (b. 1803) married Manece Cottrell "of the Vinton Cottrells, and was known to the Vinton Adneys."
(per ETA) "Charles and William disappear from knowledge of the Tennessee family, and further knowledge of them is derived from the family of Daniel Adney of Indiana their uncle, and that [of] John of Ohio..." Evidently, Charles and his son Charles died of "milk sickness", and his widow and children came to live in Union County, Indiana, where their uncle Daniel cared for the children until they were able to make a start on their own. (All of this is from what Daniel's widow, Susan, told Tappan Adney in 1904.)
Tappan shows 8 children for Charles: Charles, Thomas, Perry, John (living, in 1904, in Marion, IN), William, Mary, Elizabeth (b. 4/17/1855), and Sarah.
That's about all the hard information, such as it is, that I have. Hope it has some useful clues for you.
