James Agnew of York Co. PA married Rebecca Scott aunt of his daughter Jean's (aka Janet) husband, Hugh Scott.Hugh Scott was the son of Rebecca's brother Abraham of Nottingham twp. Chester co. PA. Samuel Scott of Rapho twp. Lancaster co, brother to Rebecca named Samuel Agnew in his will. It appears that a family of Scott siblings including Samuel and Rebecca, came directly from Ireland in the 1720s and settled in Donegal twp. on Big Chickies Creek in Chester co (later Lancaster).
James Agnew in his will dated 24 Sep 1770 names six daughters and four sons. One of those sons is Samuel born 29 Jan 1738 and d. 1819.In the 1907 Pioneers of Washington co. by Francis Reader, he writes."Samuel Agnew, son of James and Rebecca Scott Agnew, was married to Elizabeth Johnston and settled in Chartiers township, Washington county PA in 1780.He became the owner of two tracts of land, one called "Nantucket" and one called Strabane.Some of his descendants yet live on the latter and in other parts of the county."Hugh Scott of Gettysburg and his brother Josiah of Peach Bottom York co. had moved to Washington county about 1775.
