My name is Kathy Mesa and I currently live in the San Fernando Valley which is in the Los Angeles area.I noticed your e-mail Aguilars from Aquaclientes. I am also looking up my family history on my mother's side.
My story starts with my great grandparents which were named Timateo and Teodora Aguilar. They were born sometime in the 1800's in Mexico.I believe in the state of Jalisco or Aquaclientes. My great grandmother was thirteen when she married my great grandfather. She was left abandoned by her parents because in those times girls where not worth much. My great grandmother had sixteen children in which only nine have survived. The others all died at very small ages or at birth.Their children names where Pedro, Salvador, Edward, Rosindo, Esquivel, Beatrice, Hermelinda, Nora, Helea. My grandmother is Hermelinda born May 22, 1911 in Aquaclientes. From what I was told by her is that, she came to United States at about 6 months old to El Paso, TX during the Revolution.
The family moved to California in the 1920's.My grandmother was about 10 or so.My family planted roots in the San Fernando Valley in the town of Pacoima(my great grandparents brother was all ready out here. I don't know on what side though). My great grandfather worked in the fields. My family is 3rd generation in that town.We are considered one of the original families. My grandmother married at 18 yrs old to my grandfather Jesus Lujan from Chihuahua, MX.My grandmother had eight children. There names are Guadalupe(named after my grandfather's father Lujan side), Jesus (named after my grandfather), John, Esperanza (named after Saint Hope that my grandfather would stop drinking), Rita (named after St. Rita), Robert, Theodora (named after my great-grandmother), Arthur. They were all born at home except my Uncle Arthur. All are living but one.
My mother Theodora (named after my great-grandmother born August 25, 1942)was born in Pacoima and so was I (born June 5, 1961).Eventually we all settled here in California. Some in the San Fernando Valley and some in Lompoc, California (which is North near Ventura and Santa Barbara). My great grandparents both died here and are buried in Calvery Cemetery in Los Angeles, which at that time (probably in the 30's or 40's)was the only Catholic Cemetery.
I have been blessed to know most of my great aunts and uncles but now I only have one left.My great Tia Helea (currently living in Ventura).Unforunately, my beloved grandmother died in 1998.She was 88 years old.My family is quite large. We had a family reunion in 1984 and we had about 300 family members.I have date of births and dates of death written down but they are in my safety deposit box.I would like to know if we still have other family members in Mexico or California that we do not know about.I would like to find out if my great grandfather Timateo had brothers or sisters. So, if this name sound familiar, please e-mail back.
By the way, where are you from?. Where you born in Mexico or somewhere else.
