Dear Barbara; I hope you are still out there! I have neglected following up on things. I am sorry. I got Mike Ahern and Elizabeth Hooper from family tradition that came from my grandmother. More than one descendant was called Hooper Ahern in honor of that line. My grandmother and her relatives all claimed Newcastle as the region where the Aherns came from. The town of Abbeyfeale actually came from the Hartnett/Harnett side of things. Bridget Harnett had married Thaddeus aka Tim Ahern. Some of her relatives had stayed in touch with my grandmother and cousins. The story goes that Thaddeus had sent home to Ireland for a second wife after the loss of the first wife, Katie. Bridget volunteered for the cause but may not have known that Thaddeus had been married before when she got off the boat. Other regions were Rathkeale and Newcastle West. Do not know a church or graveyard in that area yet. There were 3 Harnett siblings that wrote letters to my grandmother and her family. One lived in Newcastle, his sister lived in Rathkeale but worked in Dublin at a University, and the last lived in Abbeyfeale until she moved to a nursing home and passed away. Did you ever get this will of James Edward Ahern? I have a photo of him. Thanks!
