John C. Akin b.Dec 27, 1855 in Ashland co; Mansfield, Ohio, son of Stillman Akin & Margaret Wolf. John C Akin lived in Cowley Co; Kansas where he worked as a drover for cattle between Kansas, and Texas. Returning to Michigan he married Nettie Potter, daughter of George H Potter & Emily Pierce on, Dec, 18, 1880, Ferry Twp; Oceana Co; Michigan. After engaging in Farming in Ferry, Michigan and Greene Co. Mo; and ran a livery buisness in Montague and Ludington untill 1888 he became a citizen ofShelby, Michigan and began dealing in horses.
I have followed census records for John C Akin and in 1920 found him in Grundy Co; Mo; withing with the Swinton Family , who were also from Michigan.
Johns parents died when he was abt 16 of Smallpoxs leaving him and 2 sisters orphaned. Ida J. Akin married Joseph A. Croff and Ella M. Croff was adopted by Erastus & Helen Smith of Ferry, Michigan, it is not known where she went, stories say she married, had children and was shot and killed by a son-in-law.But where?

Claude L. Akin b. June 1884 (according to census records). Claude married Laurena Doenges on June 22, 1910 in Oceana, Co; Michigan. They had 8 children in 10 yrs, Laurena died May 26th 1926. Claude lived with his father in Muskegon Michigan in 1930, later Claude moved to Florida, not known where nor does anyone know where John C. Akin went, some say Florida also......
