In what I find to be an interesting twist on this Asher Aikins theme, taking time to note that my Aikins line is on my maternal side:
It is widely reported that Rosilla Wilcox, b 23 Nov 1766, Simsbury, CT, married an Asher Aikens. Rosilla is a direct descendant of my paternal 8th great grandparents, William Wilcoxson and Margaret Birdseye.
Not that it pertinent to identifying the Asher born in 1861 in WV, but interesting for me to note, at least.
Further proof of the old adage that if you had ancestors that were in New England before 1650, you are related to half of the folks that were there at the time, and related by marriage to the other half.
