was my grandfather. He married Alice Emily Cook in 1901. Marriage data I have from Robert Ainge is to and Alice Emily Taylor in 1907, but your relationship is closer so ?
It would seem that the family was of farming or agricultural stock up until the late 1800s when, presumably because work on the land was harder to find, they began to diversify. My branch seemed to divide fairly equally between being railwaymen, (my great uncle Amos, born 1879, was a railwayman who became mayor of Evesham, though I don't know when) or joining the Police Force.
My grandfather, George, followed this path and he and Alice, who came from Kington in Herefordshire and was also of farming stock, eventually finished up in Stourbridge, then in Worcestershire, now sadly West Midlands, where all their children, including my father Victor Henry,
registered Jun qtr 1907 Stourbridge, ( as Stourbridge spans several Counties would I be right in putting West Midlands?
Are these siblings, they are registered at the same area, Audrey Frances Jun qtr 1908.Alexander Clayton Dec qtr 1909,
were born. My father married Evelyn Riley in the twenties and I was their only progeny.Dad tried very hard to join the Police but was rejected because he was not quite six feet in height ( a prerequisite in his day) and so became a lorry driver and later, after a War which took him through Dunkirk and Burma, he became a foundry manager for the same firm until his retirement. Dad died in 1984.
My husbands father was also a policeman :-)) and vert tall, I think in Oz you do not have to be so tall now.
I went to King Edward V1 Grammar School in Stourbridge, joined Westminster Bank, now( after many takeovers and aquisitions) NatWest, part of the RBS Group, and worked for them for 38 yrs. Took early retirement in 1984 and have been living life to the full since then. My wife, Rosie and I have 3 sons, one married with 2 children, the others in stable relationships, but no offspring as yet.
I also e-mail with a few Ainge lines...............
