As many of you may know AINSLIE is but one variant of a name with around 200 different spellings - the most prominent being AINSLIE, AYNSLEY, AINSLEY, ANNESLEY, AINLEY and ANSLEY.
Insofar as anyone is doing a one name study on the whole name - and yes - they are interrelated and do swap back and fore - I am doing so, at least for the UK and dominions, while Bill ANSLEY in the USA holds the ring for North America.
I have a large and growing database of AINSLEY related events (around 25-30000 items at the moment, and am always willing to look up references in it to see if I can help.
In particular I hold copies of the privately published genealogies of two of the more prominent AINSLIE clans - the Ainslies of Dolphinston and the Ainslies of Lasswade, although I've yet to get them all indexed (we're talking some 1000 people here!).
Please contact me if you think I might be able to help (either via here, which I dont visit often) or directly - in particular I'm most interested in any AINSLIEs involved in the various revolts in the 17th century, since one or several of the AINSLEY clans are sisd to be their descendants.
I'll do what I can to help, although I dont giva away bulk data, and I will not permit any of what I have to be published without full references and acknowledgements (its gathered from people on that basis).
