Hi Jennifer, Sorry for the delay, will give you the info. I have and dates also, w/ luck maybe something will connect.
Here we go: Alexander Airth (my Greatgrandfather)DOB, 12/10/1863, certificate of birth states, son of Alexander Airth, (ploughman) and Ann Orr in Whanland, for the parish of Kinnell in the county of Forfar. Baptized Jan. 14th. 1864 by George Walker, Minister of Kinnell. My Greatgrandmother, Margaret Farley Laing DOB 6/8/1867, daughter of David Laing, ploughman, and Catherine Hardy in Drybrugh ( this name could be misspelled) for the Parish of Lochee in the Burgh (county??) of Dundee. I have no baptizm
date for Margaret. Alexander and Margaret immigrated to USA 6/11/1891 on the ship "City of Rome". Alexander died in 1932 in Byron, NY, USA. His obituary stated he had at the time 3 (three) sisters in Scotland (1932), I'm guessing that they were within a few years, either younger or older than Alexander, I have no info. as to their names or place of residence. Now w/ the passing of time, there is no one alive that can shed any light on this mystery. It has been stated that he had 2 brothers, one who killed in the building of the "Tay Bridge" over the Firth of Tay? or the Firth of Forth? Also that the other immigrated to Australia. I was in contact w/ a family there many years ago, but we could not seem to make a connection.
I must admit I would like to spend more time on this search, but my time at this point is limited. As for the "Airth Castle", a couple of cousins of mine have traveled to Scotland and to the castle and the cemetery next to it. They could not make a direct connection w/ any Airth's in the area, although The town of Airth is in the Co. of Forfar if my map is correct. With the reading I have done in past years on some of the Scottish History, it appears to me that the castle was named for the town of Airth, where the town name came from is still to be found out. I did read that the castle came to the Elphinstones by way of the Bruce family by marriage. There is a book of "Robert the Bruce" that may shed some light on this for you. I can't put my hands on the book right now, but will get to it and give you the author soon. I also have a picture of the Castle, and my cousin had dinner there on her visit. Another cousin has briefly delved into the Airth History and has come to the conclusion that we may be a sept of the Graham of Montrose Clan. BUT, another cousin states we are a sept of the Gordon Clan, this I cannot believe for sure as there are no documents to state so. I have posted several messages on various sites and have not found any connection to anyone as yet.I will keep trying.
I hope that w/ this info. you may be able to find something that will help you. When I gather more info. I will pass it on. Several of my family and myself are ready to contact some to search and pay for the fee's for this service, as it is frustrating to say the least. Please let me know if any of this info. helps you, and get back to me soon.
