Get in touch, send me your e-mail address and I'll try and pull together what I have for you.I've got a fair deal of detail on Alexander Airth and Margaret Milne. My 2 x great grandmother, Ann Airth, was their niece and was married from their farm (Upper Mains of Catterline).Have you traced your Airths on the 1881 census? If not, I've got it on disc and can extract anything relevant.
Jess Airth was at home with her parents in 1841 at the time of the census. She married James Cowie in 1842.In 1851 she again appears on the census,at her parents' farm, as Janet Airth, and is noted as unmarried: although she was likely a widow. However Hugh Cowie, aged 10,appears as Alexander Airth's grandson.I've not managed to trace Hugh Cowie's birth.
Alexander Airth was born in 1791, baptised 7 May 1791, Fetteresso (i.e. present day Stonehaven), son of James Airth and Janet Hutcheon. He married Margaret Milne 18 Jun 1820, Kinneff. He died 2 Nov 1872, Allardice St, Stonehaven. Margaret Milne, d of John Milne & Margaret Low, was b c 1797, Fordoun; d 7 Jun 1875, Allardice St, Stonehaven. They had at least 11 children.
Of James Airth and Janet Hutcheon I have nothing except that their sons James (b 1789) and Alexander (b 1791), were both born in Cowie, Fetteresso.
It's heading rapidly towards midnight and like all good Scotsmen my whisky awaits me. (Not serious: playing up to stereotype!)A guid New Year!
