I am hoping you might be able to help me with an AKERS brickwall. I am trying to find the parents of my gg-grandfather, Burrell AKERS. He was born abt. 1824 in Franklin County, VA. He married Malinda BOWE, in Floyd County, KY in 1844. He served in the Civil War, 22nd KY Infantry.
There is another Burrell AKERS born about the same time, and maybe even in the same county. He also served in the Civil War, 14th KY Infantry. He married Rachel Sperry. I beleive this Burrell had at least one brother, Nathaniel. That information from a posted family history. As did, his wife's maiden name.
I have both Burrell's pension files, and have found both in the 1850 census. My Burrell is in Carter County, KY and the other is in Lawerence County, KY.
My Burrell lost his first wife in 1874 and remarried to a widow, Harriet Evaline Deal, in 1889.
Does any of this sound familiar? I would appreciate anything you might be able to tell me.
As a PS. The other Burrell, married to Rachel Sperry. His pension file contains a photograph of him. The archives sent be a photocopy of it. It is a good enough reproduction to see what he looked like. If anyone counts him as an ancestor, and can get to DC, I would reccomend trying to get a look at the orgininal. Maybe even trying to take a digital photograph of it.
Also I beleive there was a 3rd Burrell AKERS who served in the Civil War. He was in the 52? KY infantry and married an Amelia Howell. I wonder if all three of these guys were cousins? And who would they have been named for?
