Hi! Glad to find someone researching the Acres/Akers families. I have not worked on this line for about ten years, but here are some notes Imade then. There's probably more information available online now than there was then. Also, there appears to have been more than one Fred Acres in Butler Co OH.
Abraham Akers was born between 1773-1775 in Pennsylvania. Abe, age 45-47, first appears on record in 1820,Liberty Twp, Butler Co OH living with female age 41-43 (Catherine), one other male 45+, two males -10, one male 10-15 and one female 10-15. Also in Butler Co, Fairfield Twp, in 1820 was Fred Acres. In 1830 Thomas Acres is in Liberty Twp, Butler Co, but his census record is blank.Who was he?Where did he go? Indiana Marriages: (Internet) Anna Simons married William Akers (Butler Co OH) in Fayette Co IN 26 Oct 1834.I wonder who he was? In 1840 Zerubabel, a blacksmith, is in Liberty Twp.Cemetery records give his birth as 21 Apr 1811. He could be the son of Frederick Acres.Zeb married Sarah Chambers in 1845 and had a daughter Margaret who married Jacob Schenck and they are all buried in Springhill Cemetery, Butler Co OH which is where Elizabeth (Akers) and Emanuel Chance are buried. Zeb’s brother (I assume, no proof) Fred, also a blacksmith, was born in 1828, and married Hannah Van Gorden in 1845.They were divorced by the 1880s.They had two sons, Wm W b. 1846 and John R. b. 1849 who married Lena Johnson 1868 in Warren Co OH. The father of these two blacksmiths was likely a blacksmith, too. There are Butler Co land transactions for Zeb, Fred and James Akers. Using census informationof Akers who lived in Hamilton, Butler and Warren Co, we could suggest that Abe belongs to the family of Jesse Akers, Hamilton Co, Miami Twp OH: 1. Abe Akers b. 1773-75 2. John Akers b. 1789-90 (lived next to Jesse 1830ce) 3. Jesse Akers of Wash Co IN b. 1795 (bought land in Cinci) 4. FrederickAkers b. 1800? married 1820 (lived in Butler Co) 5. Rachel Akers b. 1800? married 1822 (process of elimination as to father) 6. Levi Akers b.1790-1800 (in Ham Co 1830ce)
By1850 Abraham Acres and some of his family were in Clay Co IN. I have considerable research on my computer if you'd like to contact me by e-mail. Happy to help. Margaret Nelson
