Steve, My maiden name is Akey. I too have been told (and I believe it) that the surname Akey is anglicized from the French name Ethier or Etier. I was once told they emigrated from an area in and around Limoge, France. I live near the Trenton, Ontario, air base where the military there are Quebec/French in large numbers and Ethier is a common name among them. My own branch of the Akey family seems to have been centered around the Tweed, Madoc, Sulphide and Roblin area. My father is very sketchy on any details regarding his family history. Pretty much all I know is that his father's name was Fred Akey who worked for the railroad and lived in Roblin, Ontario. Donna.
