It seems that Jonathan(5) b. 30Aug1743 Pownalboro (Wiscasset) Me., while residing in Anson, Me., was the first to use ALLBEE. He signed his pension applications of 1813 & 1820 Allbee. All his sons continued to use Allbee. His brothers Benjamin & William are variously refered to in the Wascasset town records as Albee,Allbee,Alby & Alley, but maintained the Albee spelling. Benjamin remained in Wiscasset. William removed to Machias,Me. Dea. Ebenezer Albee(6)b.09Jun1743 Townsend,Ma.,son of John(5)& Abigail(Searle)Albee, after removing to Rockingham ,Vt. changed the spelling to ALLBEE. However, the recorded baptism's of his children there are Albee, also the recorded marriages of some of his children are also Albee. He probably started using Allbee around 1798. All his sons and descendents have been using Allbee.
