Obit of Alvah S. ALDEN from page 1-486 from the Coller archive Willard Library, 7 West Van Buren Street, Battle Creek, Calhoun Co., MI 49017
Article dated Feb. 27, 1903 "GARNERED IN"
Death of Mr. Alvah S. ALDEN at a ripe old age, occurred last evening.
After a brief illness, Mr. Alvah S. ALDEN, an old and greatly respected citizen died at 7:00 o'clock last evening at his home, 64 Pittee Street, at the ripe old age of 82 years.
The deceased was an excellent, consistant Christian gentleman and for years has been as a pillar in the Methodist church of this city. He was a clever, genial old gentleman and was highly esteemed by all who knew him--none thinking more of him than his closest neighbors and those who were brought the nearer to him in the daily walks of life.
The deceased was a carpenter by trade but of late years has lived a retired, peaceful life, enjoying each God given day to the fullest measure and calmly waiting the summons which has come.
The deceased was born in Waterbury, VT Nov. 15, 1820. In 1845 he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah W. HOISINGTON, the marriage taking place in New York State--the wife of his youth still surviving him; besides whom there are two living children, Willaim H., and Minor I. ALDEN left to mourn his demise.
Mr. ALDEN came to Battle Creek, MI in 1883 and has resided in the city ever since.
The funeral will take place from the home on Saturday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. George B. KURP officiating.

I don't know who this is for sure, but with Emily being a second wife, maybe her first male child was given the family name of Alvah. More research needed, also their is a Robert ALDEN in the same town who I don't know much about. My father is named Robert also.

Written on the back of Alvah's picture is the following information by Dora BONSER ALDEN. (My additions in parentheses. Alvah was born about 1824 and Sarah was born about 1830. I got these dates from going by what was written on the back of his picture which states):
His name was Alvah Alden. This is Grandpa Alden's picture. This old Grandpa died about the time Homer was born. ( cara 1904) I don't know just the year. Grandma died later, in 1910. They were both in their eighties when they died. His name was Alvah and my husband was named after him. It is a Bible name. He was a nice man and belonged to the same church I did. Grandma did too. I don't know what became of Grandma's picture. Her name was Sarah. This is Danny and Connies Great Great Great Grandpa.(Dan and Connie STUART) Some day this will fall apart as it is crumbling now.
