Thank you very much. I am sorry that we don't know anything about him at all. It has taken us years to find his marriage certificate because here, in Australia, no one could spell his name (and I think he could not write either!) so there were many spellings on his children's certificates. Finally we found it under Aldirette, which is certainly Alderete but badly spelled. Our family uses the spelling Alterator. No one knew what the original name was, so that is what it has become in Australia. All we knew was that he was "Spanish" and brought Mules to Australia. We would love to know more about him. We don't know when he was born or exactly where, and we don't even know when he died. We think he was shot by bushrangers (banditos), but the records of the Australian Agricultural Company, for whom he worked, NEVER recorded the proper names of their Chilean workers, only nicknames. We think he is the one known as "Big Amelia" or "Big Ramelia". I know his wife later married (maybe not formally- I don't know) another of the huasos, Santo "Samuel" Crina (nicknamed "Sancho") and they had a son together. Their family is now called "Creanor." A third was called Bernardo Riba. His family is now called "Reeves". It would be lovely to find out more about our ancestor so that we can honour him. He has always been special to us because he came from Chile, which is so different. Thank you for offering to help.
