Re: A summary of Alderete history
Thanks so much for that. You gotta love it.Now we have two possibilities: one that we are descended from Moorish conquerors ( which we can justify from both the meaning of the name and the presence of Alderete conversos in documents) and one saying that we are Visigothic and predate the Conquest. Which one is true? I like the Moorish one because of the evidence. Though it does beg the question that, had they been conversos, how did they become so prominent in the conquest of South America? The Inquisition was keeping tabs on converso families, because of the fear that they were spies. But then, tordesillas was one of the early areas to become spanish again. Perhaps their moorish ancestry had been forgotten or covered successfully? Interesting also that Don Pedro and his father are in the Chapel in Tordesiilas, but where are the ancestors of the line, those before Don Rodrigo? In regards to Alderedo, the Visigothic prince, is there proof for his existence? If not, could he have been invented to cover up a Moorish background? same withCount D Alderedo who married the French princess.... Is there proof of the existence of these people?
In real terms, we're doing well to get back to Don Pedro and don Rodrigo. That much is documented. As I said, you gotta love family history.Just when you think you have it solved, something else turns up.LOL
