In reply to your request for information on John Alderfer/Aldafer, I believe my mother's book, "Alderfers Of America", contains the data you seek.
John S. Alderfer, b January 12, 1799, in Montgomery County, PA, d August 25, 1872, Marshall County, IN, married ca 1824, a second wife, Catharine Benner of Sumneytown, PA, b ca 1808.Presumably five or seven of their children were born in PA.The family removed from PA, around 1839, and first settled in Smith Township, Mahoning County, OH where they lived until 1856.They then moved to Indiana where John, a carpenter, held 40 acres in the SE quarter of the NE Quarter section 5, Twp. 33, Marshall County.Children:
1) Isaiah B. Alderfer m Millie Sanders 2) Israel B. Alderfer m Mary Jane Filson 3) Elizabeth B. Alderfer m James Bryan (his first name, Frank, was not listed in the book) - I believe Elizabeth is your great grandmother 4) Mary B. Alderfer m ......Oyster(?) - perhaps you have the name we are missing 5) Magdalena B. Alderfer m ......Wolf 6) Amos B. Alderfer (twin) m Laura ........? Amanda B. Alderfer (twin) 7) Susanna B. Alderfer m Oliver Perry.
There were two sons listed in PA after Isaiah; Josiah and Reuben, but they are not mentioned in the 1850 Ohio census. John is buried in the old part of Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, near Plymouth. His wife, Catharine, died after 1880 at Walnut, Marshall County.John's will named Catharine, their living children, and the children of their deceased children as heirs. His grandson and namesake, John, son of Amos, was to have his family Bible.
If you would like the references used, or any further information from the Alderfer history on your family, please let me know.Hope the above fills in some of the early pieces of your great grandmother's life.
