There is a story in our family that a "Rodger/Roger" left Tennessee for Illinois to avoid prosecution after a work related incident resulted in a death.I found this newspaper blurb and it may be something related to the family story. Jesse & his wife Elizabeth (maiden name Alderson) are in our family line. Does any know anything about this incident:
IN CHANCERY AT COLUMBIA--WASHINGTON C.WHITTHORNE,Admr' of R.CAMPBELL,deceased,et al vsSILAS EDWARDS and wife et al. Order Of Publication. JESSE ROGERS and wife ELIZABETH, WM.T.YOUNG,and JOHN ALDERSON,three of the Defendants, are non-residents of the State of Tennessee. December 21st. I would guess the incident occurred between 1850 & 1853. Jesse's family and that of his relatives are in Illinois by 1854. By 1860 the Rogers family and the Alderson families are living around each other in the Marion County, Illinois area.
I'd like to know what drove so many of them to leave Maury County, Tennessee. Was it a crime--Chancery Court is for Civil matters today--that drove them away or did they just decide to go?
