In my continuing search for the parents of my gg-grandfather, Herrick Aldrich, I am attempting to find the most likely candidates from the most likely region from census records.
He died before 1850 (4 Mar 1842) and was buried in the Acra Cemetery, Acra, Greene County, NY.He was born 6 Mar 1785, and according to his widow's and children's information in the 1850 census, he was born in New York state. He was married with one child in 1810 - presumably married around 1808.
The 1810 census has him in Durham, Greene County, New York.I'm thinking that he was probably born east of this location. There is an Israel Aldrich also in Greene County, but I haven't made any connection to him.
I checked the 1790 and 1800 censuses and figured that I need to find a head of household in both those years with a male child in the age range 1-15 in the 1790 census and a male child in the 10-15 age range in 1800 or 16-25 age range depending on how he would have been enumerated.
Simeon Aldrich - I found him in both with a son in the 16-25 year range in 1800 - according to information I found on the Internet (based on the GAG)he had a son, Aaron, born in 1785.Location, Pawling, Dutchess County, NY. Close, but apparently not the one. (He is next to Anthony Aldrich who has a son the correct age, but he is not on the 1790 census)
Can anyone give additional information on the following that might remove them from the candidate list?
Silas Aldrich - a son in the 16-25 age range in 1800.Location: New Cornwall, Orange County, New York.
Solomon Aldrich - Location: Pawling, Dutchess County, New York
Robert Aldrich - Locations: 1790 - Newburgh, Ulster County, New York; 1800 - Navisink, Ulster County, New York.
Two others who I do not find in this area of New York in the 1790 census, but do have sons the correct age in 1800, are:
Thomas Aldrich - Location (1800): Newburgh, Orange County, New York.(He is next to Daniel Aldrich who does not have a son the right age.)
Stephen Aldrich - Location (1800): Pittstown, Rennselaer County, New York.
