As copied from Avery County Heritage, Vol. 2:
"James "Jimmy" Aldridge, grandfather of James Abraham Aldridge and forebear of all the Avery County Aldridges, was born on Big Sandy River in Virginia in 1728.He was married, in Virginia, to Deliah Beard* and to this union were born 3 sons and 2 daughters:Sam, Frank, James, Betsy, and Rachel.Jimmy was a fiddler and a bear hunter, and it is said that when his wife became untrue to him, he fiddled his way out of the house and, with his gun, came to North Carolina and settled in the Upper Foscoe section of Watauga County. Here, while making music at a gathering, he met Betsy Calloway and marrried her.Their children were 4 sons:Waitsel, Harrison, Ben, and William "Bill", and 3 daughters:Tempie, Jane, and Ellen. They were happy until his first wife, Deliah, came to Foscoe looking for Jimmy. She found that he was married and had a second family.Jimmy left with his first wife.He returned two years later but his second family ran him off.It is said that he then married a 21-year-old girl, lived to be 110 years old, and died in Green Brier, Virginia."*Deliah Beard is listed in Vol. 1 as Sally Gragg.
