I am looking for information on the family of Edgar Sidney Aldrich born Feb. 19th 1875 in Bloomington Illinios. He married Helen Bachert of Ohio.He had one brother Wesley Aldrich.
Edgar Aldrich was a photographer/world traveller/investor.In 1921 he happened to be in Cairo during the excavation of King Tut's tomb.Edgar had been in Cairo for three years with his father and wife and had taught himself the heiroglyphics.Carter invited him to see the tomb, they having met several times before, in their mutual travels.Helen became the first American woman to enter th tomb.Upon carter deciding that only his personal team of professionals and properly credentialed journalists could stay and cover the story, uncle Edgar was out.Desperate to stay, he sent a story to the New York Times and asked if they would like to see more of the same. They said yes and Edgar Aldrich became the sole American journalist in Cairo covering the excavation for an American newspaper. It was the first time he had ever written a word for a newspaper.Overnight he became a journalist with his photographs in American newspapers all over the US and National Geographic. He was one of the only journalists there that could read the hieroglyphics on the pieces that were coming out of the tomb.
Edgar and helen Aldrich died in a car crash in Yugoslavia about 6 years later.I have pictures of the accident. It is gruesome. They died without Issue.I am looking for surviving family members who may have inherited their journals,or Edgar's father's journal.I inherited many things but the journals are not included.I would love to see these journals.
