My great grandfather was Benton Aleshire as well.My grandfather was Howard, my mother Patricia.I'm guessing, Ann, that you are Lena & Merlin's granddaughter and daughter to probably Harold.I glance through a few geneology pages here and there and was stunned to see a direct connection when I clicked up Aleshire on a national register.
Wondering if either of you has seen the lengthy geneology piece Lena wrote for the Tri-County Scribe in Augusta/Plymouth back in 1977.I got a copy from the Hancock County Historical Society. It ran for 7 weeks -- really interesting -- and cites info back through the parents of John Conrad.Talks of many of the brothers with lots of info about Jonas and Douglas. Also mentions our family connection to George Washington (John Conrad was a first cousin to George).Let me know if you've seen or would like a copy.
We get back to Plymouth two or three times a year as my grandmother, Eula, is living in Macomb and Merle still has the family place where I spent every summer with the grandparents.I stay in touch with two cousins in the area, Bill Burton (Benton's wife was Emma Burton) and Gene Groves (I think Charlie married a Groves, didn't he, Joe?) for some local info.Gene has the most fantastic photo of the Aleshire men from the late 1800s.He's going to make a copy for me.Let me know if you're interested in that as well.
Keep me posted on any big developments in the search department.Gram has the tree back through John Conrad's father (Henry, I believe) if you need any help.Rumor has it that all Aleshire's are descended from Conrad Elsheit after a name change.
I'll drop an extra flower at the graves in St. Mary and Plymouth on your behalves when we visit this summer.Take care.
