I am seeking information on the Alexander family of Atlanta, Georgia USA particularly that of a George D. Alexander(1876/78-1937) and his wife AnnieDennis Alexander(1875-1918).They are both buried in Greenwood cemetery in south west Atlanta. They were the parents offive children: Virgil J. Alexander (1895-1981) believed to have died in Michigan. No known family and is believed to be buried in Michigan.
Ellis Allen Alexander (1900-1945)reputed to have beenmy grandfather. Not found in the 1920 or 1930 federal censuses. He filled out a Draft application in 1918 which was signed by his father. They were living at 221 S. Pryor St. at the time. He married my grandmother in a civil ceremony in 1919 when she was 13 years old. Last known to have been in the Atlanta, Georgia area in the late 1920's as my grandmother had two sons: (1) Jack Cecil Alexander (1927-1932) (2) William Ernest Alexander (1929-1998) (my father)married Roma Edith Prickett(1929) in Fort Eustis ,Virginia in 1950. I am the eldest child oftheir three children.
Ellis left before the 1930 census was taken. He shows up in an obituary datedthe 29th of March 1945 as having died suddenly at home in Chicago leaving an unnamed wife and a son named Danielwho was serving in the Armed Forces and two grandchildren. He was brought back to Atlanta and buried in Greenwood cemetery in south west Atlanta.I will have to wait until 2012 to see if he is in the 1940 census for Illinois.
Blanton George Alexander (1903-1966) worked for the Atlanta Journal and Constitution in the composition department, he died suddenly in 1966 after returning home from work. He was married to the former Henrietta White (1907-1999).They had three children: Blanton Edward Alexander Mary Loretta Alexander Louise Veronica Alexander Blanton is buried in Greenwood cemetery also.
Rhetta Alexander (1907-1907) buried in Greenwood cemetery.
Pauline A. Alexander(1910-1982) married to an Unknown Broyles. She is also buried in Greenwood cemetery. I would appreciate any information about the ELDER Alexanders( i.e. George D. and his wife Annie) their parents and where they may be from. I have had indications that they may have been from around Carroll Co. Georgia but really haven't any idea where they are from exactly. According to the censuses of 1900 and 1910 they were born in Georgia and so were their parents. I would also appreciate seeing any pictures that may have survived from that period. I have one small picture of Ellis Alexander that is very faint and shows a rather tall lanky man in a boater( straw hat) which was in style in the 1920's. I hope to hear from someone soon. William M. Alexander ( in Decatur, Georgia)
